Vetting and safeguarding your interests

All new members to MyKitPlace.com should undergo our verification process before listing kit or attempting to hire equipment. You must be resident in the UK, over 18, provide photo ID and proof of address as well as references.

Without verification it is highly unlikely that anyone will rent equipment to or from you, nor should they.

We do our best to ensure that every member is who they say they are. The process is easy and non-evasive, just like you’d have to go through with any camera rental house or if you hired a car. (We do not conduct a credit check as no credit is offered).

We also ask for links to websites, showreel sites etc. While these are not always hard proof they help build up a holistic picture of a potential member.

The best safeguard from then on is the reviews of the members on mykitplace.com. A new member is, of course, going to have to start with no reviews which may make life a bit difficult at first. Please try and help out new members requesting low-value hires. Be careful of new members diving straight into high-value requests with no history.

And it is VITAL when meeting someone that you see their photo ID. Do not be embarrassed to ask for it. No checks we conduct can avoid someone hijacking someone else’s identity. The only way to avoid that is for you to check their photo ID in person.

And use your common sense. Chat and ask questions about what project they are shooting. If anything troubles you at all, do not proceed with the exchange. Contact us and let us know.  We will ensure that being cautious will never count against you in a review. Flag any such review with us and we’ll attend to it.

Finally, take the “Happy Hirer” picture with your phone of the hirer holding your kit. It is proof that they took the gear and were happy with it.
