Kit damaged when returned

When collecting of your kit at the end of the hire, it is good practice to quickly check through the kit with the Renter present. If you notice damage or components are missing or broken, then you can raise that with the Renter while they are present.

Things to check:

  • Your kit powers on and operates as expected.
  • Check camera LCDs and monitors for dead pixels or discolouration
  • Check lenses for scratches to the glass (both front and back elements) and smooth operations of focus/zoom
  • Check damage to pins and fastening
  • Check input and output connections
  • Check batteries casings for signs of damage
  • Check that all the elements supplied are still present – power leads, chargers, accessories and tools.
  • Check the camera bag for any items that aren’t yours and may have been left in there by mistake.

If the worst has happened and your kit has been damaged, make the Renter aware of this if they have not already told you in the first instance. If you do not notice the damage until you’ve taken the kit away or were not able to conduct a check in front of the Renter you should notify them ASAP of your complaint.

The procedure to report and claim for damage is as follows:

  • All damage needs to be reported to info@mykitplace.com within 24 hours of the end of the hire. Document the damage with photos or video of the problem.
  • Gather your proof of ownership documents (receipts or legal documents that identify you as the owner)
  • Estimate the cost of the damage.
  • If the damage is less than £2000 you can make a claim directly to MyKitPlace via this form.
  • MyKitPlace will be in touch with you ASAP to assist with making a claim against the Renter’s insurance and to help you get a speedy repair or replacement.
